Description
Historic Garden Flower with Radiant Appeal
'White King' Field Larkspur (Consolida ajacis) is a classic annual summer flower bearing upright flower spikes in pure white. This variety is also known as the Annual Larkspur, Field Larkspur or, regionally, as Wild Larkspur – a traditional plant that was once widespread in arable fields and meadows across Europe.
With its slender, upright stems and abundance of small white florets, 'White King' brings an elegant, airy structure to cottage gardens, naturalistic borders and wildflower strips. The blooms open sequentially from the bottom up, offering valuable nectar for bees and bumblebees. At the same time, field larkspur is an excellent cut flower, boasting long vase life – ideal for summer bouquets and floral arrangements.
As a so-called 'cool flower', Consolida ajacis is particularly well suited to autumn or very early spring sowing. The young plants tolerate cold well and flower especially early and vigorously the following year. Alternatively, direct sowing is also possible from April onwards.
