Description
Heritage Beetroot with Versatile Uses
The beetroot 'Cylindra', also known as Formanova, is a traditional variety dating back to the late 19th century. It produces up to 20?cm long cylindrical roots that slice beautifully into even rounds – ideal for pickling, boiling or roasting.
Unlike round-rooted types, 'Cylindra' is particularly easy to prepare and process. It offers a mild, sweet-earthy flavour that is pleasant even when harvested young. The roots remain tender for a long time and are slow to become woody – making them perfect for both fresh cooking and long-term storage.
The leaves and stems of this variety are also edible and can be used much like chard or spinach. With their vibrant red colouring and refined taste, they add both flavour and colour to the plate. A robust, low-maintenance variety for gardeners who value both taste and productivity.
With its unusual growth habit, subtle flavour and historical significance, 'Cylindra' is a true asset in any kitchen garden – easy to grow and a delight to cook with.
