Heirloom Vegetable Seeds
The so-called heirloom vegetable varieties impress with many special characteristics. They are often extremely undemanding and resilient, bring diversity and intense flavor to the kitchen, and are considered rich in valuable nutrients. Heirloom vegetable seeds represent original plants that have been preserved over generations and differ significantly from modern high-yield varieties.
Often, these so-called heirloom vegetables are closer to the original wild plant. This makes them more robust and aromatic in many cases, even if they usually yield less than modern cultivated varieties. Many heirloom vegetable varieties have disappeared from today's menus because they cannot be produced easily, inexpensively, or economically in commercial farming.
Fortunately, there has been a noticeable return to heirloom varieties in recent years. More and more people are growing their own vegetables again and discovering the value of traditional seeds. Many of these varieties have survived the test of time in small gardens and nurseries with an appreciation for the unique, and still possess the same characteristics as at the time of their cultivation - which in some cases dates back centuries.
