Getting your garden spring-ready
Winter is gradually departing, the first rays of sunshine are warming the earth – now’s the perfect time to get your garden ready for the new season.
March to early April is the ideal time to get your beds, raised beds and balcony containers shipshape and spring-ready.

Why specifically now?
✔️ The worst of the frost is over, but it’s still too early for sensitive plants – it’s the perfect time to prepare your soil.
✔️ Shrubs and bushes can be cut back to give them a healthy reboot for the new season.
✔️ You can sow your first seeds: spinach, radishes and carrots can go into the veg patch now.
✔️ Raised beds and containers need fresh earth or a layer of compost to top up the nutrient supply.

Checklist to launch you into spring
- Prepare beds: remove old plant debris and loosen the soil
- Improve the soil: spread compost or mulch
- Draw up your planting plan: which plants will grow where?
- Start your first sowings: sow cold-tolerant varieties like spinach, radishes and carrots
You can start these varieties outdoors now
