These three typical vegetables from the nightshade family are unmistakably part of the summer kitchen and all three are not originally from Europe. The real home of tomatoes and peppers are South and Central America and of the eggplant it is Asia. They are the true sun worshippers in the garden and need really warm and sunny locations with good water and nutrient supply. From temperatures below +12°C they stop growing. All three varieties probably came to Europe by ship at the time of the Spanish conquerors and started their personal conquest around the Mediterranean. So it is not surprising that they are an important part of the Spanish as well as the Italian, Greek, Turkish, North African cuisine and actually of all national cuisines around the Mediterranean. What is totally normal for the population of the Mediterranean zone tastes like holiday and summer for us Central and Northern Europeans. So here we present three great varieties of these heavenly summer delicacies in a seed set for balcony, terrace and garden - as long as the location is warm:
