If you have not yet travelled to the USA or Mexico personally, you only know the prairie from the Westerns. Large expanse, sparse dry vegetation, hardly any trees and bushes - it's dusty when a rider chases through the picture. The landscape is characterized by severe drought, heat and regular prairie fires. The existing vegetation has adapted to these living conditions over centuries, as the plants have formed very deep tap roots to get water and nutrients. They are true survivors who even sprout again when a prairie fire has raged over them. In the film you rarely see the unbelievable flower splendour, which also belongs to the prairie. Many of today's perennials for the garden originate from these landscapes and have long since become our familiar and beloved companions. Especially in this time of climate change, prairie plants could be the plants of the future, because they look very beautiful and can cope very well with extreme weather conditions.
