The common globe flower (Globularia punctata), also known as the spotted globularia, is a charming and rather rare perennial. It is particularly known for its unusual, globular flower heads that appear from late spring to early summer. These flowers are typically bright blue to violet in colour.

Globularia punctata is especially drought-tolerant, making it excellent for dry, sunny locations, rock gardens, or Mediterranean garden themes. Its ability to withstand dry periods makes it a valuable plant in regions with water scarcity. Like many wildflowers, the common globe flower attracts pollinators, including bees and butterflies. This makes it a valuable addition to wildflower meadows or naturalistic gardens.

Cold germination: Sowing time outdoors at the beginning of spring or in autumn. Alternatively, artificial stratification is possible. Mix the seeds with moist sand in a plastic bag. The bag must be kept warm and moist (approx. +20°C) for the first 2-4 weeks and then placed in the refrigerator where it should remain at a temperature of +5°C for 5-6 weeks. Then remove the plastic bag and observe regularly at room temperature whether the seeds germinate. Then prick the seedlings into pots and plant them out after the last frosts in mid-May.
