Details: Plant description & care
Sowing & cultivation
- Sowing period: Indoors mid-January/ end of February, resp. 8-10 weeks before the last frosts
- Ideal germination temperature: +25-28°C, a bright and warm location is absolutely necessary
- Duration of germination: Up to 2 weeks. After germination, keep the plants cool again at approx. +20°C.
- 2-3 weeks after sowing, prick the plants when the first pair of leaves has fully shaped.
- Sowing from mid-May to the beginning of June after the last night frosts. Before, the plants should be tempered for some days. Don't forget to water.
- Peppers need well-loosened, permeable soils with a high humus rate. They don't like waterlogging but should never fully dry up.
- Pepper plants love warmth and prosper best in the greenhouse. This doesn't mean that it's impossible to let them grow outdoors. However, choose the warmest and most protected space in your garden to cultivate peppers or think of a protection fleece if required.
- Peppers are hardfeeders. They need sufficient fertilizer and very much water, indeed
Don't place too close to hot varieties as peppers and chillis easily cross.
