Sorghum comes from Africa and is mainly cultivated in West Africa there as an important crop for millet gruel and millet beer. Furthermore, bioethanol can be made out of sorghum or it's used as green fodder for animals.

The name sorghum comes from the exploitation as a sweetener. From the stalks' juice, similar to sugarcane, a sweet sirup can be preserved.
It reaches 2.5-5 metres and its cultivation is similar to maize cultivation. It only gets along with substantially less water than the former. Therefore, it's being intensely researched at the moment if it's also suitable as biomass in biogas plants.
