The Snapdragon 'The Rose' is a historic cultivar of Antirrhinum majus, first listed in the renowned Späth catalogue as early as 1930. With its large, deeply rose-coloured flowers and upright, densely flowered spikes, it brings a classic, romantic charm to borders and beds. Reaching a height of around 80 cm, it is an excellent choice as a cut flower and a striking highlight in sunny cottage-style gardens.

Sowing and Care of Antirrhinum majus

Snapdragons are easy to care for, drought-tolerant, and prefer sunny locations. For early flowering, it is recommended to start them indoors on a windowsill:

Indoor sowing: From February, start indoors on moist seed compost.
Light-dependent germinator: Scatter the seeds on the surface and press them down gently – do not cover with soil.
Germination temperature: 15–18 °C. Germination occurs within 10–14 days.
Direct sowing: Possible from April onwards. Autumn sowing with protected overwintering is also feasible.
Position: Full sun; well-drained, low-nutrient soil.
