Burley tobacco is characterized by an enlarged cell structure, which leads to a high absorption capacity for aroma substances. The species is, therefore, often used for pipe and chewing tobacco. "Bursanica" is an old Burley variety that was mainly grown in the German-speaking world. The plants are very high-yielding and have a typical fir tree-shaped growth type.

Annual plant for the garden (under tropical conditions, Burley tobacco may be perennial). Likes lots of sun, water, and fertilizer. Sowing: Preculture from February. Sprinkle the fine seeds onto the substrate and press them on gently, do not cover with soil. Germinates at approx. 20 °C. Harden off and plant out in May.
