The summer savory goes well with beans. In mixed cultivation and intercropping, it keeps lice away from the bean plants, and as a seasoning herb for bean dishes it is simply perfect. Genuine summer savory is not hardy and therefore must be re-sown each year. It is native to the Mediterranean region and was probably spread in Central Europe by the Romans. Since the Middle Ages it has been used as an aromatic and medicinal herb.
