Subtle colour gradients between apricot, cream and red

The pot marigold 'Touch of Red Buff' is a modern variety with an unusually refined and nuanced colouration for calendula. Its flowers appear in cream to apricot beige tones, marked by a delicate to intense red edging. Combined with the dark brown centre, this creates a vivid, almost painterly effect that clearly sets this variety apart from classic orange calendula types.

The plants grow compact and bushy to a height of about 50 to 60 cm and continuously produce new flowers on sturdy stems. This makes it an excellent cut flower, bringing a warm and elegant colour palette to bouquets and garden beds.

As an annual, robust summer flower, 'Touch of Red Buff' is also an ideal choice for natural style gardens. It attracts bees and other beneficial insects and can be used in many ways – both as an ornamental plant in beds and as an edible flower in the kitchen or a traditional medicinal plant.

Thanks to its tolerance to cooler temperatures, this variety is also well suited as a so called Cool Flowers. Early sowing in autumn or early spring results in strong plants and an especially early and long flowering period.

Sowing and care of pot marigold 'Touch of Red Buff'

Sowing can be done directly outdoors from March to June, or as an early sowing in autumn for an especially early flowering in the following year. The seeds should be placed about 1 to 2 cm deep in the soil, as they require darkness for germination. Germination occurs at temperatures around 15 to 20 °C within 7 to 14 days.

Pot marigolds prefer a sunny to partially shaded position and grow well in normal garden soil. After emergence, the plants should be thinned to a spacing of about 20 cm. Care is straightforward: regularly removing spent flowers encourages the formation of new buds and significantly prolongs the flowering period.

The plants are tolerant of dry conditions and require only moderate watering. Thanks to their robustness, they are ideal for garden beds, mixed plantings and natural style gardens.
