Wild vegetables are simply edible wild plants. These so-called wild vegetables often have an intense aroma and are rich in valuable ingredients. Many of these plants can be found growing as 'weeds' in the wild, in fields and wastelands. It can be particularly successful to grow wild vegetables in the garden, because these plants often develop unexpectedly well under culture conditions. From an ethnobotanical perspective, wild vegetables are very interesting, as many of those species have been previously been cultivated and then forgotten and reintroduced into the wild.

This kit contains the seeds of 8 edible wild plants, suitable for domestic garden cultivation:

Purslane (Portulaca Oleracea)
Purslane is a local plant and tastes delicious in salads, hence it has already been popular since the middle ages. The succulent, crunchy leaves have a fresh and tangy flavour and light acidity.
Evening-Primrose/ Evening Star / Sun Drop (Oenothera Biennis)
The tubers of the evening-primrose contain starch, taste very aromatic and are very healthy.
Earth Almond /Chufa Sedge/ Tiger Nut Sedge/ Nut Grass (Cyperus Esculentus Var. Sativus)
Earth almond is a grass plant with almond shaped tubers, harvested in autumn. The almond shaped bulbs are rich in good oils, have a lovely nutty flavour and taste delicious either eaten raw or roasted.
Scurvy Grass (Cochlearia Officinalis)
Scurvy grass is rich in vitamin c and its spoon-shaped leaves have a cress-like sharpness and are a delicious addition to any salad.
Wild Garlic/ Ramsons/ Bear’s Garlic (Allium Ursinum)
Wild garlic’s natural habitat is semi-shaded forests but it also grows well in domestic gardens. Its leaves and tubers are said to have health promoting properties and it has a lovely garlicky flavour.
Crow Garlic/ Stag’s Garlic/ Wild Garlic (Allium Vineale)
This wild leek variety also known as wild garlic, can also be harvested in wintertime.
Tuberous Pea/ Earthnut Pea/ Aardaker (Lathyrus Tuberosus)
Tuberous peas grow spread out on the ground and develop lots of dendrical offshoots, which form small edible tubers that can be cooked or roasted and have a lovely nutty aroma.
Wild Carrot / Queen Anne’s Lace (Daucus Carota)
This wild form of our common carrot develops rather skinny roots, which tend to lignify but have a wonderful intense aroma and delicate texture when harvested early.
