Golden Midget' is perhaps one of the most beautiful watermelon varieties. This very early maturing plant produces high yields of small, golden-yellow watermelons with salmon-pink flesh. The fruits are initially green and turn golden-yellow when fully ripe. This makes it easy to determine the right harvest time, as there is nothing more frustrating than picking an unripe melon. It is one of the earliest varieties, maturing in just 70 days. The numerous fruits are small and have a good portion size. The growth habit is also very compact for a watermelon. We have grown it in 25-litre pots, where a single plant produces only a few, perhaps two, fruits. The variety was bred by Albert Yaeger in the USA in 1959.
