Silene capensis (also called Silene undulata) is an African plant from the carnation family. The root is called "African Dream Root" and traditionally serves as a very powerful, dream-promoting remedy. The consumption of the plant can provoke very vivid, sometimes also lucid dreams. The Xhosa tribe in South Africa uses the plant to get access to the spiritual world in lucid dreams. The preparation, in which the active ingredient-containing root is soaked in water overnight and, on the next day, the foam is consumed, is called Ubulawu.
