Mexican Teosinte is presumable the wild form of maize. It's used like grain maize and can be crossed like Zea mays. Needs a little bit more warmth. The particular about Mexican Teosinte is that the grains simply fall off when it's mature and, thereby, sow themselves. Today's maize has lost this characteristic. Its grains are too firmly attached and it couldn't sow itself without the help of humans anymore.

Sowing 2-3cm deep directly outdoors from mid-April. The distance between the plants should be about 30-45cm. When sown in "blocks", the plants thrive better than in single unprotected rows. Sometimes, maize is also precultured indoors, which increases the yield significantly.
