Sowing & care of the Hollyhock Mix

The Hollyhock Mix is a dark germinator. For best results, sow the seeds directly outdoors in autumn so that the plants bloom the following year. Alternatively, seeds can be sown from May to July. Plant the seeds about 0.5 to 1.5 cm deep in loose, nutrient-rich soil and gently press them in. Germination occurs at temperatures between 15 and 22 °C within 14 to 21 days. Hollyhocks prefer sunny, dry, and sheltered locations with well-drained soil. The only weakness is hollyhock rust, which can be prevented with good air circulation and proper care. Hollyhocks are undemanding and only need occasional watering, especially during dry periods. Pruning after flowering encourages self-seeding and extends the plant's lifespan.
