The voyage tomato is an old Indian heirloom variety from Central America. It owes its name to the fact that, due to its unusual fruit shape, it is ideally suited as food for travel. The fruits are made up of many separate fruit chambers, which can be taken off the fruit individually without spilling any juice.

It is also known as "Russian Voyage Tomato" because it is said to have been a preferred snack on board of the Trans-Siberian Railway and to have found its way to Europe via Asia and Russia. It has a strong tomato flavour. The robust voyage tomato is well suited for outdoor cultivation and can already be planted outdoors from the end of April or the beginning of May. Also well suitable for the raised bed.
