The Lingonberry is one of the oldest food plants of mankind. It grows in the woods and has already been collected there in prehistoric times. Therefore, it belongs to mankind as an old crop. The small dwarf shrub preferably grows in pinewoods and
spruce forests, as well as in moors and heaths on acidic soils.
Once established in one place, the lingonberry often spreads by stolons so that it can also be used as a ground-cover plant in the garden.

Lingonberries can indeed be eaten raw. However, they are very sour and are, therefore, often processed to compote and marmalade. Preserved, it's a great garnish for schnitzel and sauerbraten. The sourness develops from the many contained fruit acids. On top, the berries are very rich in vitamin C and several B vitamins, as well as beta carotene and certain minerals. In folk medicine, the lingonberry is also known as a medicinal plant against cystitis.

The lingonberry is more and more suppressed by the so-called blue huckleberry, the bilberry.

The bag must be kept warm and moist (approx. +20°C) for the first 2-4 weeks and then placed in the refrigerator where it should remain at a temperature of +5°C for 5-6 weeks. Then remove the plastic bag and observe regularly at room temperature whether the seeds germinate. Then prick the seedlings into pots and plant them out after the last frosts in mid-May. Prefers acidic soil.
