The melon 'Retato Degli Ortolani' is an early to medium ripe sugar melon variety from Italy. It produces almost round fruits weighing up to 2kg. The skin is green with a net pattern and turns yellow-brown when ripe. The flesh is bright orange with a typical sweet melon scent.

The Cantaloupe melon was probably already cultivated about 5000 years ago in the area of today's Iran. It spread from there over the Mediterranean. In ancient Rome it was a popular type of fruit.
