The sweet pepper 'Sweet Chocolate' is a sweet, block-shaped pepper with an unusual chocolate-brown skin and deep red flesh. Despite its name, the sweet pepper 'Sweet Chocolate' has no chocolate flavour at all. The name refers solely to the dark, coffee-brown outer skin of the ripe fruits. In terms of taste, it impresses with a mild sweetness and a full, slightly earthy aroma that clearly sets it apart from classic red block peppers.
Sweet, juicy and surprisingly versatile in the kitchen
The blocky, slightly elongated fruits have a smooth surface, usually two to three chambers and a relatively thick, juicy wall. When eaten raw they are particularly crisp and aromatic, but they also retain their shape well when grilled, fried or stuffed. The unusual combination of brown skin and red interior always creates a striking visual accent.
Early maturing and reliable even in temperate summers
As an early to mid-season variety, 'Sweet Chocolate' reliably ripens its fruits even in cooler or less sunny summers. The plants grow compact and robust, usually reaching a height of around 60 to 90 cm, making them suitable for cultivation outdoors, in the greenhouse and in larger containers on balconies or terraces.
