The chilli 'Sugar Rush Peach Stripey' is an exceptional Capsicum baccatum variety with strikingly striped, peach-coloured fruits and an intensely fruity-sweet aroma. Each fruit is individually patterned and combines decorative appearance with aromatic versatility. Thanks to its high yield and balanced heat, it is considered one of the most exciting modern chilli varieties for garden, greenhouse and kitchen.
Striped mutation with a Nordic history
'Sugar Rush Peach Stripey' originated as a targeted further development of the variety Sugar Rush Peach. Within a population, plants with red-striped fruits were discovered and selectively propagated. The origins of this breeding line lie in Scandinavia, where particularly aromatic and high-yielding Capsicum baccatum varieties are highly valued. Botanically, it belongs to the species Capsicum baccatum, known for its abundant fruiting and complex flavour.
Peach-coloured, elongated and always unique
The plants grow vigorously and can reach heights of over one metre depending on location, and up to around two metres in the greenhouse. The elongated, slightly curved fruits grow to around 10 to 12 cm in length. During ripening, they change colour from greenish to peach-orange before developing red stripes of varying width. No two fruits are alike, making this variety particularly decorative.
Fruity sweetness meets medium heat
With a heat level generally perceived as medium to medium-high, 'Sugar Rush Peach Stripey' remains well below classic Habanero varieties. The heat builds gently and fades relatively quickly, allowing the pronounced aroma to take centre stage. In terms of flavour, sweet and fruity notes dominate, reminiscent of peach, apricot and citrus, complemented by crisp, relatively thick flesh.
Versatile in the kitchen and decorative on the plate
The fruits are ideal for fresh use, for example in salsas, salads or as an aromatic topping. This variety is also well suited for sauces, stir-fried dishes and for pickling in vinegar or oil. Thanks to its striking striped pattern, it is also popular as a decorative chilli, both in the garden and on the plate.
